Newsletter Summer 2022 | Cup for Humanity

On behalf of the chairman of the board, we want to start by wishing all the readers of this newsletter a fruitful summer season. Specifically, we would like to thank our board members and donors for their hard work. In the previous newsletter, we updated you about the progress of our different projects namely, the sewing atelier, peace education, and child sponsorship program. Besides, we informed you about our newly established office in Kigali, Rwanda. In this newsletter, we are pleased to inform you about further progress in our African programs.

Institutionalization process

A Cup for Humanity has embarked on the process of being registered as an international organization working in Rwanda. Contacts and documents filling are in progress with the government of Rwanda through the ministry of reconciliation and civic education (Minubumbwe). We are hopeful that soon we shall have the organization registered. More significantly, we are happy to introduce to you our brand new program ‘Mission trip to Rwanda’ which aims at providing you with the opportunity to serve the community, visit your sponsored child and enjoy extraordinary tourism in Rwanda.

First peace education training organized in Kigali

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God” (2 Corinthians 1:3–4).

Besides the Peace training we organized previously in the eastern and southern parts of Rwanda, we are happy to inform you that we have successfully managed peace education training for women who survived the genocide in Kigali, the capital city of Rwanda. On July 9, 2022, A Cup for Humanity in conjunction with Christ gospel church organized the first peace training in Kigali. 27 women who survived the genocide attended the training. It was a moment to offer them a platform to share their stories and life journey from 1994 to date. Apart from listening to them, we shared the word of home. We believe that mothers are the pillars of their families. It is said here in Rwanda that when a mother is educated the whole family is educated. We are happy to see that our organization is contributing to rebuilding families that were devastated during the genocide in Rwanda. Participants expressed the joy of receiving comfort through the word of God. We are planning to start sharing with the world their testimonies of hope, resilience, and restoration from them. It is also important to note that, training in peace in a post-conflict society like Rwanda is the key to social transformation.

Child sponsorship program

A Cup for Humanity sponsorship program supports poor children to get a decent education. Through this program ACfH has two top-priority goals for each child we will work with:

  1. Help them complete high school or a vocational equivalent.
  2. Bring them into a loving relationship with Christ.
  3. Preparing them to play a key role in breaking the cycle of poverty in their families

How Educational Sponsorship Works

We plan to meet these goals through many different programs and ministry areas. Sponsorship helps families by assisting them with school fees. This means families can pay for other expenses. Sponsored students receive a school uniform and scholastic materials. They are encouraged to attend a yearly Christian camp, where they enjoy a meal, play games, and hear about Christ. Additionally, sponsorship covers basic medical needs that fall outside of government-sponsored insurance, so sponsored students have greater access to health care. You help transform lives in an entire community by coming alongside a student and their family through sponsorship and prayer.

The following are what we cover per a sponsored child

You can play an important role in a student’s educational and spiritual journey as a sponsor. We desire for all sponsors to build relationships with their sponsored students through writing letters, ordering gifts, or even traveling to Rwanda. We hope the impact of sponsorship stretches far beyond the borders of Rwanda, to your heart, your family, and your community.
