At A Cup for Humanity, we believe that true community restoration requires addressing both emotional wounds and economic stability. Through community-focused workshops, practical self-care techniques, and peer support networks, we empower individuals across Rwanda to process trauma, rebuild trust, and cultivate lasting hope.
Our Approach to Healing
Our workshops utilize a participatory dialogue-lecture approach that combines evidence-based techniques with culturally resonant practices. We create safe spaces where participants can share, process, and recover together.
Key Pillars of the Program
Active Listening & Peer Support: Training participants in empathetic, non-judgmental listening to build safe environments for sharing and support.
Understanding Post-Traumatic Stress: Demystifying trauma symptoms to reduce stigma, recognize triggers, and build practical coping strategies in daily life.
Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET): Utilizing the therapeutic value of storytelling to help individuals reconstruct their life narratives and process past experiences.
Holistic Self-Care & Physical Well-being: Teaching actionable self-care routines, including neck and head massage techniques for stress-induced headache relief and promoting daily hydration habits for overall health.
Survivor Support & Restoration: Emphasizing physical and emotional healing, body resilience, and community support systems for survivors of sexual violence.
Expressive & Cultural Practices: Integrating storytelling, group prayer, singing, dance, and interactive games to foster emotional release and mutual trust.
Economic Empowerment: Combining emotional healing with practical tools—such as providing equipment for local income-generating activities—to build long-term resilience.

Real Stories of Transformation
The true measure of this work lies in the ripple effect—how participants use their healing to uplift their families and neighbors.
Restoring Hope & Saving Lives
“Drawing on what I learned about Narrative Exposure Therapy, I gently guided a friend in crisis to focus on positive memories… This simple but powerful exercise helped shift her focus away from despair. In the end, she chose not to go through with suicide. Today, she is stable and continuing her healing journey.”
Rebuilding Family Connections
“Communication at home was strained… However, after attending the training, I began practicing active listening, offering compliments, and maintaining a positive attitude. Today, our home environment has improved dramatically, and we enjoy a happy, supportive family life.”
Physical & Emotional Relief
“I had been suffering from chronic headaches since the age of eight… After learning and consistently applying the headache relief techniques taught during the training, I have experienced complete relief.”
A Space to Be Heard
“This is the first time in my entire life that I have had the opportunity to sit down and be truly listened to by someone. The experience has left me feeling deeply uplifted.”
